Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 29, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Restart Financial ("we", "us", "our") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are based in British Columbia, Canada, and serve members in Canada and the United States.
1. Information we collect
- Account information — your name and email address when you sign up.
- Onboarding & profile answers — information you provide about your situation (e.g., country, debt situation, goals).
- Financial information you enter into our tools — such as income, expenses, debts, and savings goals in the budget/cashflow and debt tools.
- Learning activity — your course progress and questions you submit to the in-app coach.
- Payment information — processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and limited details (such as the last digits of your card and billing email); we do not collect or store your full card number.
- Technical data — basic information stored in your browser (via local storage) so the site works and remembers your progress.
2. How we use your information
We use your information to provide and personalize the Service, save and restore your course progress and tool entries, process payments, respond to your questions, allow your advisor to support you (see below), improve the Service, and meet legal and security obligations.
3. Advisor access
4. Service providers we share data with
We share information only as needed with trusted providers who help us run the Service:
- Supabase — secure database and authentication (stores your account and the data above).
- Netlify — website hosting.
- Stripe — payment processing.
- EmailJS — email delivery, used when you choose to send a message that includes your information — for example, a support request to Restart Financial or a consultation request to a debt-relief partner. In those cases the details you choose to include (which may contain a summary of your budget, such as income, expenses, and debt payments) are transmitted through EmailJS to reach the recipient's inbox.
- Debt-relief partners (CreditLift in Canada; our partner firm in the US) — if you request a consultation, we pass along the budget and debt details you choose to share so they can follow up. They then handle your information under their own privacy policies.
- AI service provider — the in-app AI Money Coach answers your questions using the budget figures you enter (such as income, expenses, and debt payments) together with the question you type. To generate a response, this information is sent to and processed by a third-party AI service provider, and is used only to return the Coach's answer — not to train that provider's AI models.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Some links in the Service (for example, a recommended bank account) are affiliate links: if you open an account through one, we may earn a referral fee at no cost to you. Using an affiliate link does not share your personal information with that company.
5. How your information is protected
Access to the site uses secure (HTTPS) connections, and your data is stored with access controls so that you — and, where applicable, your authorized advisor — can see it, but other members cannot. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service and meet legal obligations. You may ask us to delete your account and associated data (see below).
7. Your rights & choices
You can access and update much of your information from your account page. You may also contact us to request a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete your account. Canadian users have rights under PIPEDA, and US users may have rights under applicable state laws; we honour reasonable requests regardless of where you live.
8. Cookies & local storage
We use browser local storage (and essential cookies) to keep you signed in and to save your progress and tool entries on your device. When you sign out, your personal financial entries are cleared from that browser (they remain saved to your account and are restored when you sign back in).
9. Children
The Service is intended for adults (18+) and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Changes
We may update this Policy; material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above.
